Sni Valley Fire District receives $137,669 grant

John VanGorkom, chief of the Sni Valley Fire Protection District received good news Friday. VanGorkom learned that the district has been approved for a $137,669 federal Fire Act Grant. The district’s share of matching funds will be $7246. Funds will be used to replace bunker gear and self-contained breathing apparatus. VanGorkom has requested bids on the equipment purchases. Those bids will be opened Monday afternoon prior to the district’s board meeting which will begin at 7 p.m.

Pirch, Salley file for R-6 Board

Ruth Pirch, incumbent, Oak Grove, and Kevin Salley, 4202 Milam Road, Bates City, filed Tuesday for election to the Oak Grove R-6 Board of Education. Pirch is completing her first three-year term on the board.
Salley was a candidate for the board in April, 2004.
Maury Bird, board president, is the other incumbent whose term expires. Final filing date is 4 p.m., Tuesday January 17. Election will be held Tuesday, April 4.

City officials file Tuesday for re-election

Mark Fulks, mayor of Oak Grove for the past 21 months, filed for reelection Tuesday morning. Mary Holzbaur, alderman ward one, who is completing her first two year term, also filed for reelection. Brad Alexander, ward two, the veteran on the board of alderman with nine years of service, filed for reelection to his sixth term.
City election will be held April 4. Final date for filing is 5 p.m., Tuesday, January 17.

Mayor's Christmas Tree...A 32 foot tree, donated by Bob Beebe and Bill Chisholm families, stands beside the Oak Grove Civic Center.
